5 Binge-Worthy Sci-Fi Shows
In 2016, television shows are plentiful and the new hit show that everyone has to see in a certain genre is released but what to start with? Sci-fi combines all the elements of a drama, action and comedy all in one genre and usually have great stories that will hook anyone looking to find a show to get lost in. Here are five sci-fi shows that will do exactly that.
4. The X-Files (1993-2002, 2016)
5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2015)
Do not shrug this one off if you are a Star Wars fan because of it being a cartoon. This is not made specifically for kids, but your 10 year-old brother or sister would be able to follow along with it as well. Experience the Star Wars galaxy in the perilous period of The Clone Wars that couldn't be fit in the prequels (and wouldn't have been done as well). Watch jedi like Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano aid the Grand Army of the Republic and fight against the droid army. The entire series is available on Netflix.

4. The X-Files (1993-2002, 2016)
Probably the most well known science fiction series by millennials and their parents, The X-Files follows FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigate cases deemed "unsolvable" by the FBI. The show ran from 1993-2002 with a special six-episode event airing in January of 2016. For people who like crime shows mixed with a child like love for the paranormal and spooky creatures this 208 episode series will do just that. The entire series, including the six-episode event, is available on Hulu and the original nine seasons are available on Netflix.
3. Firefly
Have you ever wondered what a western in space would look like? Firefly follows a ragtag group of lovable renegades living on their ship called the Serenity who fought on the losing side of a civil war in the year 2517. They now explore a new star system that humans have just arrived to trying to make a name for themselves. Joss Whedon pitched this initially to FOX as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things". Sadly, there is only one season but it is one of the best reviewed and fan loved shows. The season and movie that followed it, entitled after the ship Serenity, are both available on Netflix.
2. Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Similar to Firefly, Battlestar Galactica follows a the last of mankind depleted fleet fleeing from pursuing robots while simultaneously searching home, Earth. The show was more than a cult following and is to this day one of the most popular tv shows to date. This sexy, heartfelt, action-packed sci-fi drama is a show that will forever stand the test of time and is definitely worth watching all seventy-three episodes available on Hulu.
Multi-verse, clones, time travelers, creepy monsters, teleportation and people who can make others spontaneously combust, welcome to Fringe. Follow Special Agent Olivia Dunham of Fringe Division as she deals with these freaky cases with the help of a mad scientist Dr. Walter Bishop who can only be corralled by his estranged son Peter Bishop. With the help of their allies, the three will explore the very edge of reality and what should be possible in order to keep the modern world safe. Spanning four full seasons with twenty-two episodes and a shortened fifth season with thirteen, this does not disappoint and is the biggest binge-worthy show on the list. The series can be watched on Netflix.
Hopefully this is a good starting point in a future binge weekend where one of these shows will take up an entire day watching and no regrets will be had.

I have never really considered watching sci-fi before, but I am always on the look-out for new shows to watch. 3 of these 5 shows I have heard good things about, so this post just kind of reminded me of them which makes me want to give them a try. My oldest sister growing up always watched "The X-Files" and my other sister always rants and raves about "Battlestar Galactica" and "Firefly." One thing she always says is how sad she is that Firefly doesn't have any more seasons.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched/considered watching "Supernatural"? That's probably the closest thing to sci-fi I've ever watched, and although I haven't watched the last few seasons I still enjoy the show!
Thanks for the post! I look forward to seeing what other shows you recommend.
You've peaked my interest on the Star Wars show. I've always been a huge star wars fan but for some reason never even gave the cartoons a try. I always viewed it as more of a little kids star wars. The rest of these are shows I really enjoy. Good list and a fun read!
